Tough As Nails Mountain Run Results May 9,2009
Prescott Park , Roxy Ann Peak
Another crisp and clear May morning greeted runners to the annual Tough As Nails run on Roxy Ann Peak . Wildflowers abounded, aand after heavy rains the preceding week, the high level of moisture and bright spring morning coaxed them into a brilliant extravaganza of rainbow hues. Trails were in prime condition for running with no dust and just a hint of mud.
Volunteers helped maintain the course's integrity and manned the 3-way Aid Station, helped with registration, helped park cars, worked the clock and shutes, and cheered on the intrepid mountain goats who challenge this difficult course. They included Connie, Gillette, Jane Podolski, Allen Gillette, and Ladd Zastoupil.
The starters orders sent runners off around the loop for the 5k course as well as the double loop with the mountain climb and descent for the 10 mile race. John Leuthold grabbed the honors for the 5k with a division record time of 17:51. For the fairer sex, Bree Ray was first, with a new female record time of 19:30. Doug Naverson smashed the old Senor Goat Division (60-69) record with a time of 20:48.
Results for the 10 mile race reflected the high-quality trail speedsters who call our area home. First overall was Eric Skaggs, 57:42. Top female was Jenn Shelton , in a course record time of 1:09:00. Other division records were: Piers Rassmussen, 1:14:20 and Tom Bischoff, 1:36:32.
Respectfully, Clayton ‘Mountain Man’ Gillette
